The 2026 Audi Q6 Facelift in China Features Design Elements from the Q6 e-tron

by Grace

China plays a crucial role for Audi, a brand under the Volkswagen Group. Audi offers models tailored specifically for Chinese drivers. One such model is the Q6, a full-size luxury crossover. It should not be confused with the Q6 e-tron, which is a line of electric SUVs.

The Q6 is produced through Audi’s joint venture with SAIC Motor in Ningbo. It was launched in 2022. Soon, a mid-cycle facelift will arrive at dealerships. This update will include many design elements inspired by the Q6 e-tron, starting with the radiator grille.

The Q6 e-tron also influenced the design of the front bumper, slim front headlights, and rear signature lighting. During testing in Germany, the updated Q6 was spotted with flush door handles. This change further sets it apart from the previous version.

Currently, the Audi Q6 is the third-largest Volkswagen Group crossover built on the front-wheel-drive MQB platform. It shares its platform with the larger Volkswagen Talagon and the even bigger Volkswagen Viloran. The Q6 is mechanically similar to the second-generation Volkswagen Teramont, known as the Volkswagen Atlas in other markets. The refreshed Q6 will likely feature interior upgrades inspired by the Q6 e-tron.

For example, an optional touchscreen for the front passenger may be added. The 2026 model was also tested at the Nürburgring race track. It shows a slightly redesigned rear bumper.

Regarding the engine, the most likely choice is the EA888, a 2.0-liter TSI engine from the Volkswagen Group. Audi calls it the 2.0-liter TFSI. This four-cylinder engine has a gray cast-iron block and crankcase for added strength and better noise reduction.

Earlier this year, SAIC Volkswagen introduced the fifth-generation EA888 engine in China’s Teramont Pro. This engine produces 272 metric horsepower (268 mechanical horsepower) and 400 Newton-meters (295 pound-feet) of torque. It has a 500-bar fuel injection system and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour (62 mph) in 7.6 seconds.

The fifth-generation EA888 engine includes a VTG turbocharger, an integrated exhaust manifold, an intake manifold with an intercooler, and redesigned oil passages. It also features stronger connecting rods, pistons, and a more robust crankshaft. A vane-type oil pump improves oil delivery, and the air intake path has been shortened. The intercooler helps prevent the throttle body from sticking in cold weather.

Under the optimistic WLTC test cycle, this turbocharged 2.0-liter engine consumes about 8.35 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (approximately 28.2 miles per gallon).

This high-output EA888 is expected to be the only engine option for the 2026 Audi Q6. Volkswagen has discontinued its VR6 engine.

Currently, the 2025 Audi Q6 uses a 2.5-liter VR6 engine that produces 296 horsepower and 369 pound-feet (500 Newton-meters) of torque. Both the previous EA888 inline-four and the now-discontinued EA390 VR6 engines are paired with a dual-clutch transmission in the outgoing Q6.
