The Nissan Leaf has been around for a while now. I first tested the second-generation model back in 2018. At the time, I said it was the best electric car you could buy for the money.
Since then, many new electric vehicles have come out with longer ranges and more advanced features. Nissan is also preparing a brand-new Leaf model. But the older Leaf still has plenty to offer.
Used Nissan Leaf Deals: Buy an EV for Less Than £7,000
You can still buy a new Nissan Leaf for about £28,500 or lease one starting at £488 a month. However, new Leafs don’t offer great value today. They cost about the same as an MG4 or a Renault 5, which both have better range and more modern interiors.
But if you look at used cars, the Leaf becomes a real bargain. For example, I found a 2018 model with 55,000 miles for just £6,995. That’s a great price for an electric car with this many features.
Used Nissan Leaf: Specs and Features
This Leaf has a 40kWh battery and a claimed range of 168 miles. In everyday use, you can expect around 140 miles, which is enough for most daily trips.
The car comes with a lot of tech as standard. It includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, cruise control, satellite navigation, adaptive cruise control, and DAB digital radio.
Where the Leaf falls short is charging. It uses the older CHAdeMO 50kW charger, which is less common than the CCS charger found on many newer EVs. Charging from 20% to 90% takes about 90 minutes.
If you’re thinking of buying a Leaf, you’ll want to have a home charger. It’s not the best option for frequent long trips. But if you want a cheap, comfortable, spacious, and well-equipped electric car for city driving or commuting, the used Leaf is worth considering.
