Zuno General Insurance has unveiled a groundbreaking feature in India’s motor insurance market, introducing real-time crash detection in its flagship Zuno Smart Drive policy. This innovation, powered by advanced mobile telematics, transforms traditional motor insurance into an intelligent safety solution, bridging the gap between technology and emergency response.
The real-time crash detection system in the Zuno app automatically detects accidents and notifies the insurer’s support team. This triggers immediate roadside assistance and starts the claims process—without the need for manual input from the policyholder. This feature not only speeds up the response time but also ensures help arrives quickly, potentially saving lives and reducing stress after a crash.
Shanai Ghosh, Managing Director & CEO of Zuno General Insurance, said, “With real-time crash detection, we’re moving from reactive support to proactive safety. Zuno Smart Drive is an insurance policy that looks out for you, provides critical support, and prioritizes your safety.”
The Zuno Smart Drive policy also includes India’s first ‘Pay How You Drive’ model at no extra cost. This feature rewards safe driving by offering weekly incentives and discounts on policy renewals. The system tracks behaviors like speed, braking, and consistency, providing personalized insights directly through the Zuno mobile app—without requiring external hardware.
The launch of this feature comes at a critical time, with road accidents on the rise in India. According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, over 461,000 accidents occurred in 2022, resulting in more than 168,000 deaths—a nearly 12% increase from the previous year. The need for faster emergency responses and smarter insurance solutions is more urgent than ever.
This new feature positions Zuno as a tech-driven insurer focused on customer-centric innovation. The company, formerly known as Edelweiss General Insurance, serves over 7 million customers and has a strong digital distribution network.
Zuno’s Smart Drive is more than just an insurance policy—it’s a connected safety solution for India’s growing mobile population.
