COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Drivers gathered early at The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, presented by Gran Turismo, as the event officially kicked off. Among them was Lew Bouchier, who returned to the mountain in a water-cooled Porsche GT3 — a car sponsored in part by Stinger Chemical.
This year marks a major change for Bouchier. He previously competed in an air-cooled Porsche but has now made the switch to a more modern, water-cooled GT3. Despite the change, he isn’t focused on beating records. In fact, Bouchier believes Jeff Zwart will surpass the current air-cooled Porsche record at this year’s event.
“I just love this car,” said Bouchier, a driver from Texas. “Every new Porsche improves on the last. Each one is the best of its time. This is my first water-cooled model, and getting all that power to the ground takes serious control.”
The Porsche GT3 Bouchier now drives is raw and demanding. It doesn’t come with traction control or an automatic transmission — and that’s exactly how he likes it.
“It’s just meat and potatoes,” he said. “It’s glorious to drive.”
