BMW of North America has announced a voluntary safety recall for a small number of 2025 X3 xDrive30 models due to potential damage to the front brake discs. The recall impacts only 26 vehicles, all manufactured on February 19, 2025. The damage is believed to have occurred during the transport process.
Documents submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reveal that the front brake discs on these vehicles may have “heavy marks or cuts on the disc surface.” This damage could affect braking performance, increasing the risk of a crash if left unaddressed.
The issue was first identified on February 20, 2025, when BMW staff noticed an unusual sound in the braking system during a routine inspection of a newly assembled X3. Initially thought to be a one-off problem, a similar report from a BMW dealership on March 24 led to a deeper investigation. BMW, working with its supplier ZF Foxconn Chassis Modules, found that the damage occurred during transport, not as a result of manufacturing.
So far, BMW has not received reports of any accidents or injuries related to this issue. Nonetheless, the company is recalling the affected vehicles as a precaution. The recall involves replacing both the front brake discs and brake pads at no cost to the owners. The replacement parts are listed under part number 8831512-01.
Owners who have already had their vehicles inspected or repaired for this problem under the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty will not be eligible for reimbursement, as the warranty covered these repairs at the time.
The recall notification process began on April 16, 2025, when BMW alerted its dealers. Letters to vehicle owners will be mailed out by First Class mail starting June 6, 2025. These letters will provide instructions for scheduling a service appointment at an authorized BMW center.
BMW advises owners to act quickly to ensure their vehicle’s safety. Drivers can check for any open recalls using BMW’s official recall lookup tool by entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or contact BMW Customer Service at 1-800-525-7417 for more details.
In a related recall, BMW also announced a recall last month for certain 2025 X3 models due to a potential issue with the rear brake hoses that could affect braking performance. This recall impacted 192 vehicles, specifically the 2025 X3 30 xDrive and X3 M50 xDrive models, manufactured between February 6 and February 7, 2025, at the company’s Spartanburg plant in South Carolina.
