Audi’s Q5 Goes 62 Miles on Electric Power and Charges Quicker Than a Laptop

by Grace

Audi has expanded its Q5 lineup in Europe by introducing new plug-in hybrid versions of the popular crossover and crossover coupe. These variants, revealed after the Q5’s redesign last fall, are available in two power levels and aim to deliver both performance and efficiency.

The standard plug-in hybrid combines a 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder engine with a 25.9 kWh battery and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that includes an integrated electric motor. Together, this setup produces 295 horsepower (220 kW / 299 PS) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque. This allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (0–100 km/h) in just 6.2 seconds. It can reach a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

For those seeking more power, Audi offers a performance version. This variant delivers 362 horsepower (270 kW / 367 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. As a result, it reduces the 0–62 mph sprint to 5.1 seconds, though the top speed remains the same at 155 mph.

Audi has also improved the battery system. The new plug-in hybrid battery is about 45% larger than the one in the previous model. This increase allows the Q5 hybrids to drive between 51 and 62 miles (82–100 km) using electric power only.

Charging has also been upgraded. The new models support an AC charging rate of 11 kW, up from the previous 7.4 kW. This means the battery can now be fully charged in around 2.5 hours—faster than many smartphones.

Inside, both models come with Audi’s S line interior. Standard features include black leather sport seats, a tri-zone climate control system, an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 14.5-inch infotainment display. Other notable elements include an S sport suspension, red brake calipers, and 19-inch lightweight alloy wheels.

Production of the plug-in hybrid Q5 models takes place in Mexico. Audi plans to open orders in Europe later this month. In Germany, prices start at €63,400 for the Q5 e-hybrid quattro and €65,900 for the Q5 Sportback e-hybrid quattro. The more powerful versions are priced at €71,800 and €74,300, respectively.
