Renault Refreshes SUV Lineup with Stronger Hybrid Engine and Upgraded Features

by Grace

Renault has unveiled updates to its SUV lineup for the 2026 model year, featuring a more powerful hybrid engine and improved standard features. The changes apply to the Captur and Symbioz models, with both benefiting from a new, stronger hybrid powertrain and a fresh mild hybrid engine option.

The key update is the introduction of the E-Tech 160 full hybrid powertrain, which replaces the previous 145-horsepower engine in both the Captur and Symbioz. The new powertrain includes a larger 1.8-liter petrol engine and a bigger battery, now 1.4 kWh, up from the previous 1.26 kWh.

With the new powertrain, both models see performance gains, including a reduction of more than one second in the 0-62 mph time. Fuel efficiency improves by about 5%, and CO2 emissions are reduced to 97 grams per kilometer, making the engine compliant with EU7 standards. The increased battery size also enables more electric-only driving, which lowers fuel consumption and reduces noise.

Renault has also improved its multi-mode transmission system, offering smoother gear shifts and adding a new mode for motorway driving, which further reduces noise and boosts responsiveness. Additionally, all trim levels now come with an electronic shifter as standard.

The new powertrain allows for a higher towing capacity, now 1,000 kilograms, up from 750 kilograms. The Captur E-Tech 160 starts at £25,195, while the Symbioz E-Tech 160 is priced from £29,795.

In addition, Renault offers a new mild hybrid 140 engine option for the Symbioz, which is available only in the Techno trim. This 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine combines mild hybrid technology and delivers 47.9 mpg on the WLTP combined cycle, with CO2 emissions of 133 grams per kilometer. The entry-level Symbioz is priced from £27,395.

Driver assistance systems across the Captur range have also been enhanced. Electric parking brake and auto-hold are now standard on all trims. For hybrid models, adaptive cruise control with a speed limiter is now standard from the Techno trim upwards, automatically adjusting speed and maintaining safe distances.

The top-spec Esprit Alpine trim includes additional safety features such as lane centering assistance, blind spot recognition, rear detection with emergency lane-keeping assist, and rear cross-traffic alerts. A new child-locking function for rear doors and windows has also been added to this trim.

These updates highlight Renault’s commitment to both electrification and safety, with the new hybrid powertrains helping the company move toward zero-emission mobility while still delivering practical performance for everyday driving.

Both updated models will be available at Renault dealers, with deliveries set to begin later this year as part of the 2026 model year lineup.
