HWA Plans New Hypercar to Challenge Aston Martin Valkyrie—No Electric Powertrain In Sight

by Grace

HWA, known for its work with exclusive supercars like the Pagani Huayra, is preparing to build its own hypercar from scratch. The company has earned a reputation for creating rare, high-performance vehicles but has yet to design a fully original exotic car. Now, that is about to change.

Gordian von Schöning, the Chief Technology Officer at HWA, confirmed the news in an interview with Carscoops. He said it makes sense for HWA to develop its own super hypercar. More interestingly, Schöning revealed that the new hypercar will not use any electric or hybrid powertrain. This means the car will rely solely on a traditional combustion engine.

Currently, HWA is focused on the HWA Evo, a restomod project based on an existing Mercedes chassis. After completing track tests, the Evo will undergo a public trial at the Nürburgring during the Le Mans weekend. Despite this, HWA is pushing forward with plans to become an independent car manufacturer in Germany and is close to receiving official approval.

The upcoming HWA hypercar will be entirely new and not based on any Mercedes-Benz model. Though the company has not shared many details about the engine, a V12 is expected given HWA’s history in building race car engines. Schöning emphasized that the car will not have any hybrid system, as he believes electric motors do not suit a high-end car designed to deliver pure driving emotion.

In addition to the hypercar, HWA will soon launch a successor to the HWA Evo. This new restomod will use a V8 engine instead of the V6 in the original Evo, responding to customers who preferred more power.

Pricing for the new hypercar is expected to reach seven figures. The HWA Evo itself is already nearing the million-dollar mark. One challenge HWA faces is homologation because the new hypercar will not have an existing vehicle identification number (VIN) from a base model. This means it must pass full safety and crash tests independently. HWA has already performed crash tests on the Evo, showing their engineering approach is on track.

In summary, HWA aims to create a highly exclusive, non-hybrid hypercar that will compete with the likes of the Aston Martin Valkyrie. This project marks the company’s bold step into making its own exotic car from the ground up, prioritizing traditional engine power and pure driving experience.
