BMW has officially revealed the new M2 CS, a high-performance special edition coupé delivering 390kW and a top speed of 302km/h. This marks the fourth CS model launched by BMW in just three years, following the M3 CS (2023), M4 CS (2024), and M3 CS Touring (early 2025).
Priced from $172,900 before on-road costs, the M2 CS will begin customer deliveries in Australia at the end of 2025. The car will be built at BMW Group’s San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico.
The M2 CS continues BMW’s tradition of compact, powerful cars, following in the footsteps of the iconic BMW 2002 turbo, the 1 Series M Coupé, and the first-generation M2 CS. The new model was recently previewed at the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on the shores of Lake Como, where its aggressive exterior design and signature ducktail spoiler drew attention.
Lightweight Engineering with Carbon-Fibre Construction
BMW M has managed to shave off around 30kg compared to the standard M2 Coupé. This weight saving comes from the extensive use of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) across both exterior and interior components. The M2 CS also rides on forged M light-alloy wheels, further reducing weight and improving performance. These enhancements make it the lightest M2 of the current generation.
Enhanced Engine Performance
Under the bonnet, the M2 CS gets an upgraded version of the 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine. This unit is also the foundation for the M4 GT3 EVO race car. It delivers 390kW of power and 650Nm of torque—an increase of 37kW and 50Nm over the standard M2 Coupé. These output figures match the M3 Competition Sedan and M4 Competition Coupé with M xDrive.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic and paddle shifters. The transmission allows the driver to choose from three shift modes for a tailored driving experience.
Blistering Acceleration and High-Speed Capability
The M2 CS accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.8 seconds—0.2 seconds faster than the standard model. It hits 200km/h in 11.7 seconds, shaving 1.2 seconds off the regular M2’s time. The car’s top speed is electronically limited to 302km/h, courtesy of the standard M Driver’s Package.
Exclusive Wheels and Design Features
The M2 CS features CS-specific forged M wheels with a double-spoke design finished in gold bronze. The wheels measure 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear, adding both performance and visual appeal to the vehicle.
