Some colors look great together. Others leave people confused or even alarmed. A recent example of this comes from the United States, where a vinyl shop gave a BMW 7-Series an unusual and bold makeover using purple and yellow.
The BMW 740i, part of the brand’s current 7-Series lineup, already has a striking design. With oversized kidney grilles and unusual headlights, it’s not everyone’s favorite when it comes to looks. But the new wrap job takes things even further. The bottom half of the car is covered in bright yellow vinyl, while the top half is wrapped in a shiny purple.
These colors are strong on their own, but together they create a jarring effect. The yellow, in particular, is so fluorescent it’s been compared to a tennis ball. While this shade might work on small, playful cars like the Abarth 500e, it doesn’t do any favors for a full-size luxury sedan.
To be fair, the purple isn’t bad. It has a glossy, metallic finish that shines in the sunlight. If the whole car had been wrapped in just this purple, it likely would have turned out stylish and modern. Unfortunately, the combination with yellow undermines any visual appeal it could have had.
The transformation doesn’t stop at the wrap. The BMW also features custom black wheels with a tightly-spoked design. Behind those wheels are yellow brake calipers that match the lower body color.
Inside, however, the car remains untouched. That’s probably for the best. The 7-Series is known for its high-end, luxurious interior — one of the best in the luxury sedan market. And for anyone riding in the car, the silver lining is that they don’t have to look at the clashing exterior while sitting comfortably inside.
